SHOTS ON GOAL—for St. Paul 11-11-10 for 32; for Sun Valley 17-16-14 for 47.

GOALIES—St. Paul, John Bidon (38 saves). SV, James Moskos (28 saves, 13-1-0 season);

OFFICIALS—Referee, Bobby Noyes; linesmen, Curt Martin and Richard Winkler.

NOTES—At tonight’s game were four members of the 24-7-1 Suns team of 1979-80, which scored 159 goals in 32 games and had the previous single-season record for wins. They were Bobby Noyes, Glenn Hunter, John Burke and Dick Nelson….With 197 goals in 28 games, the Suns will certainly break the single-season franchise record of 199 goals set by the 21-10-1 squad of 1982-83. That team, led by the 63 points of center Dave Reichel, outscored opponents 199-146 and had a two-season 24-game unbeaten streak—but the team lost seven of its last 11 games….Sun Valley’s forward lines were Vilnis Nikolaisons-Jamie Ellison-Luke Smith, Chas Riopel-Joe Lawson-Scott Winkler, Chris Benson-Tom Forti-John Miller. The Forti line had a great night, with 11 of the 23 Sun Valley points….Blueliners were John Stevens-Paul Baranzelli, Kit Hughes-Jon Bender/Scott Carmack….Carmack, who capped the 5 goals-in-6 minutes Suns spurt to open the contest, had been the only Suns skater playing six or more games who had not scored a goal…..It was a quick game, featuring only 6 penalty minutes.…The Turtles had three ex-Suns players with a combined 7 years of experience and 136 points. They were Kevin Lynch (37-45 for 82), defenseman John Howell (5-20 for 25) and Rhett Behrje (13-16 for 29).

Suns 5, Turtles 3
Saturday

St. Paul Turtles 0 1 2 3
Sun Valley Suns 2 1 2 5

FIRST PERIOD—(1) SV, Forti 14 (Baranzelli, Stevens), 7:20. (2) SV, Baranzelli 19 (Jamie Ellison), 16:39, power play goal.

SECOND PERIOD—(3) St. Paul, Wiemer (unassisted), 2:44. (4) SV, Chas Riopel 7 (Lawson, Winkler), 11:16.

THIRD PERIOD—(5) St. Paul, Pete Brustad (Kevin Lynch, Anthony Lancette), 6:06. (6) St. Paul, Marshall (Sweeney, Rhett Behrje), 9:11. (7) SV, Benson 13 (Forti, Hughes), 18:32, game-winning goal. (8) SV, Winkler 16 (Lawson), 18:52, empty net goal.

SHOTS ON GOAL—for St. Paul 7-15-11 for 33; for Sun Valley 12-4-18 for 34.

GOALIES—St. Paul, John Bidon (29 saves); SV, Matt Gershater (30 saves, 13-1-0 record).

OFFICIALS—Referee, Richard Winkler; linesmen, Bobby Noyes and John Olson.

NOTES—Sun Valley’s forward lines were Nikolaisons-Ellison-Smith, Riopel-Lawson-Winkler, Ben Stauffer-Forti-Benson….The Ellison line (only 2 points) had a very quiet weekend…..The return of Kris Webster enabled the Suns to use three sets of defensemen. They were Stevens-Baranzelli, Hughes-Carmack, Webster-Bender.…The Suns have given up a lot of goals just by giving up the puck in their own end. Twice, the Suns handed the puck to the Turtles early in the third period and the Turtles tied it 3-3…Turtle goalie John Bidon, a buddy of Gershater, made a fine save midway through the third to keep it deadlocked. He stopped Smith’s break-in, on a nice pass from Ellison, then Bidon got lucky when a Stevens blast hit the post…..Leading the weekend scoring were Forti (2-5 for 7) and Benson (4-1 for 5)….Baranzelli has 10 power-play goals to lead the team….Happy birthday Tim "Hawk" Jeneson, 46 on April 4…. Nikolaisons entered the game with only 2 penalty minutes for the entire season. He had 4 tonight…..The Suns outpointed the Turtles 36-18 on the weekend….Here’s an update of Sun Valley’s current top all-time scorers. Benson (153-148 for 301) is only 31 points shy of John Finnegan for #3 on the all-time list, and Fester is 42 goals short of Bobby Noyes’ all-time goal scoring record of 195. Jamie Ellison, who has done his damage in only 6 seasons, is 94-154 for 248, just 3 points short of Dave Hutchinson for #7 all-time. Others are #10 Chas Riopel (97-127 for 224), #15 Vilnis Nikolaisons (73-126 for 199) and #17 John Stevens (74-115 for 189)….George Jacket winner was Dr. Frank Batcha.
