Rendezvous Nordic races


Wood River Valley cross-country ski racers posted some outstanding results during the 23rd annual Yellowstone National Park Lodges Rendezvous races Saturday.

Sun Valley Junior Nordic ski teammers Hannes Thum, Alex Hamlin and Delamon Rego podiumed by placing 1-2-3 in the 10-kilometer freestyle event. Their teammate Mollie Parker was second among the female racers at that distance.

Hailey’s Tessa Benoit was the second female behind Kristina Joder of Salt Lake City in the women’s 25k freestyle race. Mike Wolter and Rick Knoebel finished 5-6 in 25 classic.

And Ketchum’s Peter Webb, 33, was fifth overall at the 50k freestyle distance behind runaway winner John Bauer, 32, of Duluth. Del Pletcher, 57, of Ketchum had a great day in 33rd overall, winning his age class.

There were 54 Wood River skiers in the 606-racer field and 12 won their age classes—Hannes Thum, Alex Hamlin, David Harrison and Judy Harrison at 10k; Muffy Ritz, John Swyers, Jenny Busdon, Ted Angle and Joanne Davis at 25k free; Mike Wolter and Michael Dunham at 25 classic; Del Pletcher at 50k free.

Meanwhile, in Friday’s Western Regional Junior Championships classic races, class winners from Sun Valley were Brennan Rego, Mollie Parker, Delamon Rego and Courtney Perry.
