Looking for a
senator
It came as
no surprise to the 5,266 local voters who trounced Idaho Sen. Larry Craig
2-1 in the last election when he announced that Blaine County is not part
of Idaho and that he does not represent it.
However, it
may have surprised the 2,796 local voters who cast ballots for Craig, not
to mention the people who donated generously to his campaigns.
It turns
out it isn’t just disinterest that accounts for Craig’s lack of
support for wilderness, clean rivers, clean air and healthy wildlife. The
little known fact that Blaine County isn’t part of Idaho explains it
all.
Looks like
the county commissioners need to get busy and find the county a new home.
Maybe Oregon, Washington or Montana would take us. Maybe there we could
find a senator to represent us.
Still, it’s
puzzling. Craig has not let this matter keep him from accepting campaign
donations from people who live and visit here. It hasn’t kept him from
attending Republican fund-raisers here.
Now the cat’s
out of the bag, perhaps he’ll seek out a more suitable place for these
confabs, like the lovely banks of a mine settling pond or a nice warm
nuclear waste dump.
It’s good
Craig made his position clear. Next election, no Blaine County voter will
have to waste a ballot—or a dollar.
