Rugby raffle raises
$3,000
To benefit Bald
Mountain boys
The Bald
Mountain Rugby Football Club staged a successful raffle and party Saturday
at Whiskey Jacques in Ketchum.
A total
$3,000 was raised after paying for the printing of tickets and party
expenses.
Club
officials said that 383 raffle tickets were sold for the three prizes
being offered.
The prizes
were:
·
The season ski pass donated by Sun Valley Company was won by
longtime club benefactor Bob Kaplan of Ketchum.
·
The Sunday brunch for four at the Lodge Dining Room was won by Clint
Lightner of Ketchum.
Both prizes
were donated to the Bald Mountain Rugby Club because club members helped
with the set-up and take down of October’s Swing ‘N Dixie Jazz
Festival in Sun Valley.
·
The Smith package of goggles and glasses donated by Smith Sport
Optics was won by Ali Warner of Ketchum.
Past
winners of the rugby club’s raffle prizes were Griffith Tarlow of
Ketchum, the 2000 season ski pass, and Derek Lloyd of Ketchum, the 1999
season ski pass.
Approximately
75% of the club’s annual revenue comes from the raffle. Funds pay for
tournament entry fees, barbecues at home matches, referee fees, new
equipment and occasional social events.
One more
rugby fund-raising event will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at Whiskey
Jacques. It will occur at a farewell party for Kirk Chauncey and Matt
Stacey, who are going to New Zealand to travel and play rugby.
Kaplan, an
Olympic athlete and former member of the U.S. national rugby team, has
donated several jerseys from some of his international matches.
They will
be auctioned off at Whiskey Jacques Nov. 29. Kaplan helped organize the
Ketchum rugby club during the early 1970s.
