Residents
can
help victims
(updated
Wednesday, Sept. 12)
In the
wake of Tuesday’s attack on New York and Washington D.C., the Idaho
Red Cross is asking not only for blood donations, but for contributions
to its disaster fund as well.
To
compensate for the need for blood donations, Red Cross centers in
southern Idaho’s largest cities will also be open for extended hours
this week:
-
Boise
Donor Center, 5380 Franklin Road, 429-5845, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
-
Idaho
Falls Center, 540 Third St., 522-8262. 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday and
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
-
Pocatello
Donor Center, Pine Ridge Mall, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The
Jerome Community Blood Drive Thursday at the St. Jerome Catholic
Parish Hall in Jerome has been filled, but the Buhl Community Blood
Drive — scheduled to be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the
Moose Hall in Buhl — still has some timeslots available. To make an
appointment, call Sandra at (208) 543-2357.
Information
on upcoming blood drives, and the nearest blood donation center can be
obtained by calling (800) GIVE-LIFE.
In
addition to the need for blood, Dave Fotsch, spokesman for the American
Red Cross of Greater Idaho, said monetary donations are needed for the
national organization’s disaster relief fund.
"As
we are assessing the situation, it seems like there will be tens of
thousands of people we’ll have to assist," he said.
For
information on how to donate money to the America Red Cross relief fund,
call the Twin Falls Sawtooth branch at (208) 733-6464 or (888) 367-6321.
Fotsch
also said checks can be made out and mailed to American Red Cross, 1139
Falls Ave. E, Suite B, Twin Falls, ID 83301.
