Tennis players enjoy Labor Day tourney

Perry, Haggstrom capture men’s doubles

By LAURA CORDES
Express Correspondent

This year’s entries doubled in size for the Labor Day tennis tournament at the Warm Spring Tennis Club.

Tournament director Mark Scribner said that the nearly 100 entries made for an exciting three-day tournament.

"The numbers this year gave more depth to the draw," Scribner said. "It made the competition tougher."

David Perry, the Fourth of July winner, added another men’s Open singles crown. Warm Spring pro Perry defeated Jared Burnham 6-3, 6-3 in the championship match.

Another Warm Springs pro, Kurt Haggstrom, and Ketchum local Kiril Sokoloff won the men’s Open doubles crown.

Haggstrom and Sokoloff beat Bryant Jones and David Perry 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the finals.

In the 4.5 mixed doubles finale, Ryan Drew and sister Lauren Drew defeated Eric and Gwen Thornfeldt 6-2, 6-3.
