The 2001
Wild Rockies "Unplugged" Mountain Bike Series comes to a rousing
conclusion with the 10th annual Brundage Mountain Bike Festival near
McCall on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1-2.
Organizer
Ron Dillon said the Brundage event also serves as the Idaho State
Championships. Over 300 bikers are expected at McCall for the ninth and
final round.
Wild
Rockies bikers, 251 strong, last competed Aug. 18-19 in the Pomerelle
Pounder cross-country and downhill races at Albion. Boise cyclists Shawn
Mitchell (1.49:08, 20.8 miles) and Brooke Blackwelder (1.32:29, 15.6
miles) prevailed.
Ketchum’s
Whitney Albright (1.54:39) finished seventh and Jason Eder of Hailey
(2.01:32) was eighth in the tough Pro/Semi-Pro cross-country race over
four laps of the 5.2-mile Pomerelle loop.
Moses Mexia
(2.36.69) and Tony Chaves (2:46.70) placed third and fifth in the
Pro/Semi-Pro men’s downhill on a treacherous 1.1-mile drop. Whit
Harbaugh (3:00.62) won the Expert Men’s 18-under DH.
Winning
their age classes among 15 Wood River Valley cross-country racers at
Pomerelle were Troy Quesnel (1.59:56 for 20.8 miles), Carl Verislow
(1.34:01 for 15.6 miles), Dave Bell (1.44:00 for 15.6 miles), Kathleen
Eder (2.37:00 for 15.6 miles) and Steve Harris (1.14:17 for 10.4 miles).
