88 golfers remember
Chuck Gates
At Elkhorn scramble
Saturday
What a
turnout for the fourth annual Chuck "C" Gates Memorial golf
tournament!
Eighty-eight
golfers toured Elkhorn Golf Course’s 18 holes Saturday to raise money
for The Sagebrush and Equine Center for the Handicapped.
Roger
Roland, who organized this year’s tournament with Gile Williams, said,
"Chuck Gates was just a great guy—the "CNN" of the
valley, the glue that kept us all together. He was so into golf the last
four or five years of his life that we decided to have a golf tournament
to remember him."
Gates, one
of seven founders of the "Idaho Mountain Express" newspaper,
died Dec. 6, 1997 in Nevada at the age of 51. He also started Ketchum’s
first radio station, KRMR, and ran the Macho Taco stand across from the
Ketchum Post Office in the early 1980s.
