Runners finish Great Potato course in Boise
23rd annual Boise YMCA event
Twelve Wood River Valley runners were among 830
foot-racers finishing the 23rd annual Great Potato Marathon, half-marathon
and 5-kilometer fun runs May 5 near Boise.
Finishing in the top three of their classes in the
half-marathon were Erin Long, Jeff Ealey and Cyndy Garvin. Indeed, Garvin
won her women’s 45-49 age class and finished 37th overall of 157 women.
In the 5-kilometer race, John Swyers won his class and
Genie Swyers finished second.
The only 26-mile, 385-yard marathon finisher from this
area was Hailey’s Greg Wilt, 37, who finished 36th overall of 218
marathoners and seventh in the men’s 35-39 age class with a finishing
time of 3.29:09.
Overall marathon winner was Alex Pachev, 28, of Provo,
Utah with a time of 2.37:36. The men’s runner-up was Blas Guerra, 36, of
Ontario, Ore. in 2.44:59. In fifth overall, leading the women, was Jane
Hewett, 31, of Juliaetta in 3.01:56.
In the half-marathon, there were eight locals among 298
finishers. Here are overall placings, names, ages and times:
23—Jeff Ealey, 39, of Hailey 1.33:43, 2nd 35-39. 70—Marty
Smith, 46, of Ketchum, 1.47:37, 7th 45-49. 77—Emilie Pavlovich, 29, of
Ketchum, 1.48:43, 5th 25-29 and the 16th woman. 82—Erin Long, 23, of
Ketchum, 1.49:07, 2nd 20-24 and the 18th woman.
95—Heidi Smith, 44, of Ketchum, 1.50:51, 6th 40-44 and
the 24th woman. 103—Christine Gould, 29, of Ketchum, 1.52:40, 7th 25-29
and the 30th woman. 114—Cyndy Garvin, 48, of Bellevue, 1.54:16, 1st
45-49 and the 37th woman. 115—Todd Carrier, 29, of Ketchum, 1.54:21,
10th 25-29.
There were 314 runners in the 5k event. John Swyers, 61,
of Ketchum, won the men’s 60-69 age class in 20:32, good for 25th place
overall. Kent Lyons, 49, of Hailey was 51st overall with a time of 23:05,
5th in 45-49.
And Genie Swyers placed second in the women’s 45-49 age
class with a time of 26:27, the 31st woman and 114th overall.
