Janss Pro-Am Classic returns to Baldy

Crist family is honored

They’re calling the 2001 Bill Janss Pro-Am Classic "three days of movin’ and groovin,’" and that’s certainly what this weekend’s event is looking like.

In four years, the Bill Janss Pro-Am Classic skiing and social activity, named after the man who owned Sun Valley from 1964-77, has become the major fund-raising event for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

This year’s event will pay special tribute to the Crist family for their contributions to Sun Valley skiing and their achievements, according to co-director Mila Riggio.

Riggio said, "The parents, Roger and Diane Crist, made many contributions to the SVSEF over the years. Roger was president of the board and instituted a lot of the academic standards we now have, and Diane was the consummate volunteer, always there.

"Their children Danielle, Reggie and Zach have accomplished much in ski racing and all have a passion for the mountains and adventure.

"Danielle is an adventure filmmaker and has made four first descents of remote rivers in foreign countries. Reggie and Zach have been on the U.S. Ski Team and are on the Men’s Journal adventure team."

Among skiing stars expected are Christin Cooper, Mark Tache, Mike Frost, Nick Lewis, Adi Erber, Hans Standteiner, Mike Jacoby, Sondra Van Ert, Judy Nagel Johnson, Nick Maricich, Maria Maricich, Kiki Cutter, Muffy Davis, Chris Pravda, Erika Whittaker, Tyler and Terry Palmer, and Kenny Corrock.

Last year’s event featuring 18 six-member teams raised about $80,000 for the SVSEF.

Whether you’re a competitor or spectator, be sure to pull out your tackiest bellbottoms and loudest windshirts and join up!
