Suns plan benefit for Glotfelty
Two weekends, four games left
The Sun Valley Suns (13-6-2) will be playing hockey this
weekend, but they’ll be thinking about the status of defenseman Jake
Glotfelty.
Glotfelty, a member of the Sun Valley Ski Patrol, broke
his back Saturday when he didn’t quite land a jump on the course after
the Sol FEST big air exhibition on Baldy.
That information came from his teammate, John Stevens, who
said Glotfelty underwent surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah Monday to repair
a broken vertebrae in his back.
Stevens said, "They’ll take part of his hip bone
and fuse it in. There’s a 90% chance he’ll be back to normal in a
couple of weeks. It’s one of those broken backs where you can
walk."
Glotfelty, a fifth-year Suns defenseman from Kenai, Ak.
and Northern Arizona University, was having one of his best seasons with
the Suns.
In 21 games Glotfelty was the fourth-leading Suns scorer
with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points, bringing his career total over
the century mark to 31-70 for 101. He was the team’s scoring champion in
1997.
To help Glotfelty with the unexpected expenses, the Suns
will hold a benefit night when they close their 2000-01 season with a game
against the St. Paul (Minn.) Turtles on Saturday, March 31. All tickets
will cost $10 ($5 pass holders), with proceeds going to Jake.
The Suns finish their 2001 season with four home games—March
23-24 against the Fairfield County All-Stars from Connecticut and March
30-31 against the Turtles.
