Councilwoman to resign

Hailey City Councilwoman Jennifer Hazard
Davis announced Monday she would be leaving office one year early.
Davis, who has served three years of a
four-year term, said growing business and family responsibilities had made
it difficult for her to continue in office.
"I wanted to do the council job
justice because it is such an important job. But it requires a great deal
of energy and time, and I was running out of both," Davis said during
Monday night’s council meeting.
Hailey Mayor Brad Siemer said he was going
to miss her and her civility and honesty.
"She brought good concerns like
downtown Hailey business and Hailey’s young people, and she made sure
the council was aware of issues in these areas.
"She came into office not knowing many
of the technicalities of the office, but she was a quick study and learned
fast."
Fellow council member Rick Davis said it
had been "a real pleasure working with her for the last year."
He commended her for always being prepared.
Hazard Davis has been with North & Co.
since 1991 and is currently the store’s manager. She said the business
recently expanded into shoe sales with the opening of Shoe Fly in Hailey’s
Alturas Plaza.
In addition to increased business
responsibility, Davis and her husband now have increased family
responsibility with the adoption of a daughter who is now one year old.
Hailey city clerk Heather Dawson said it is
now up to Siemer to name a replacement and to the council to ratify his
choice.
That, she said, will take place at a Jan. 6
council meeting. Davis’s last day as a councilwoman is Dec. 31.
When asked if she would return to politics
one day, she said, "You never know."
