Ketchum Mayor Guy Coles, 76, is out of
critical condition at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise
following kidney failure and subsequent heart problems on Tuesday of last
week.
Coles was placed on a temporary pacemaker,
and taken by ambulance to Boise. There the mayor underwent kidney
dialysis, and the pacemaker was removed. He now is in stable condition in
the hospital‘s coronary care unit, said his son, Kelly.
Coles’ son said his father is doing
better, although he now has pneumonia.
"Everything’s fine. He’s out of
the woods," Kelly Coles said.
When the pneumonia clears up, the mayor
should return home.
Kelly Coles said the cause of his father’s
kidney failure has not been determined.
This was Coles’ second visit to the
hospital for a heart problem in as many years. In August 1999, Coles
received quintuple bypass surgery to evade clogged sections of artery.
Coles has been Ketchum’s mayor for seven
years.
While Coles is away from his post at city
hall, council president David Hutchinson is assuming the mayor’s duties.
