Ongoing Events

Visit the Ore Wagon Museum historical display, East Ave. and Fifth St., no charge.

Visit the Ketchum Heritage & Ski Museum, Washington Ave. and First St., 1-4 p.m., no charge.

A Children-Oriented Carnival, complete with rides and the like will be located behind Starbucks Coffee on Sun Valley Rd.

Vintage Wagon Days footage from the 50s and 60s at the Community Library,

1-6 p.m., Thursday & Friday, pick up video at main desk to view in library, no charge.

Wednesday, August 30

College of Southern Idaho class at Ketchum City Hall, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.. Led by local historian Ivan Swaner, "Mining of the Wood River Valley" includes an up-close and personal examination of the ore wagons at the Ore Wagon Museum.

 

Friday, September 1

Big Hitch practice, early evening, parade staging area at Sun Valley Horsemen’s Center.

Review old Wagon Days posters, Ketchum City Hall Meeting Room, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

A Children-Oriented Carnival, complete with rides and the like will be located behind Starbucks Coffee on Sun Valley Road.

Poster signing with artist Mike Mason: 12-1:30 p.m. Visitor Information Center; 1:45-3 p.m. Jane’s Paper Place; 3-4 p.m. Chateau Drug; 4-5 p.m. Gallery Oscar.

Black Jack Ketchum Shootout on Main Street in front of The Casino, Ketchum, 7 p.m., no charge.

Wagon Days grand marshal reception, Ketchum Heritage and Ski Museum, Forest Service Park, 5 p.m., no charge.

Gallery Walk, visit Sun Valley Gallery Association galleries located around the Sun Valley and Ketchum area featuring new exhibits and artist receptions, 6-9 p.m.

Saturday, September 2

Flapjack breakfast: All you can eat from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., pancakes, sausages, eggs, fruit, coffee, OJ, Fourth St. and East Ave., sponsored by the Papoose Club. Live entertainment performed by Doc Tater and the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Proceeds benefit projects for children of the community. Cost: adults, $6; senior citizens 65 and older, $4.50; kids 4-12 $3.50; and children under 4 are free.

Luv & Hugs Petting Zoo, located on East Ave, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30p.m. Farm animals (goat, sheep, pigs, cows) and exotic type animals (emu, snakes, deer, iguana). Sponsored by Atkinsons’ Market. Train Rides in a kid-scale, ten-car train for $1.

Eh-Capa Bareback Riders performance, 10:30 a.m., Sun Valley Horsemen’s Center Arena, no charge. Only foot and bike traffic permitted in Horsemen’s Center area. Parking available at The Community School. Sponsored by Big Wood Landscaping and Sturtevants sporting goods.

Pre-Parade Ore Wagon interpretation seminar with Edgar McGowan at the Sun Valley Horsemen’s Center 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Black Jack Ketchum Shoot-out on Main Street in front of the Pioneer Saloon at 12:15 p.m.

Three rounds of cannon fire to announce the beginning of the Big Hitch Parade, Main Street, Ketchum, by Richfield American Legion at approximately 12:50 p.m.

3rd Annual Parade Preview, Carriages, buggies and carts will kick of the Big Hitch Parade with a quick run through the parade route at approximately 12:50pm.

BIG HITCH PARADE, 1 p.m. Over 100 entries with the largest collection of non-motorized vehicles in the northwest. Parade begins at the Horsemen’s Center on Sun Valley Road and travels down to and along Main Street in Ketchum.

High school parade bands performance, Idaho high school bands will perform on East Ave. following the Big Hitch Parade at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Water fight between Ketchum and Sun Valley Fire Departments, East Ave. following the high school band performance at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Ongoing interpretive presentation on the ore wagons, 4 p.m.-6 p.m., Ivan Swaner. Meet by the Big Hitch ore wagons at Ore Wagon Museum on the corner of Fifth St. and East Ave.

Sun Valley Jazz Band, The Casino, 3 p.m.-5 p.m.

13th Annual Sun Valley Collector Car Auction, Over 250 antique cars expected from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s at Sun Valley’s Elkhorn Resort, no charge. Car check-in on Fri. 12 p.m.-7 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m.-11 a.m., bidding Sat. 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday’s inspection is from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and bidding is from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, call (800) 255-4485 or (509) 326-4485.

Monday, September 4

Bellevue Labor Day Celebration, Shootout on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. followed by the parade at 11 a.m. Food and craft booths, music with Old Time Fiddlers and other bands, bingo, dunking tank, pie eating contests and more can be found in the Bellevue City Park from 3 – 5 p.m. Contact the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, 788-7060.

Portable toilets: Located in the following locations for the weekend: Giacobbi Square parking lot, Fourth St. and East Ave., Horsemen’s Center, Community School, Parade Staging area, Red Barn area. Facilities also available at the Visitor Center on Fourth and Main.

 

Souvenir sales: Buy posters, buttons, t-shirts, hats, candy and beverages, at the Wagon Days souvenir stands located: the Visitor Information Center (Fourth & Main), East Ave. and Sun Valley Rd., Sun Valley Rd. at Bitterroot Rd., Warming Trend (Tenth St. & Hwy. 75), and from any of the youth organizations at the parade. Sales to benefit local youth organizations.

 

Food Stands: Papoose Club at Giacobbi Square and over 80 restaurants to choose from!
