It’s a tie: Coin toss needed to decide school board election

Longtime Blaine County School District Trustee Lita Sullivan and challenger Gary Stivers, a local newscaster, each received 49 votes in yesterday’s school board election.

"This has never happened in Blaine County," district clerk Cathy Zaccardi said last night during a telephone call after the election. "With all we’ve been through this year with elections, this is unbelievable."

Sullivan is the school board’s chairperson.

Zaccardi said the Hailey Zone 2 tie will be broken with a coin toss—as mandated by Idaho law—at the June 13 school board meeting.

Kate Parnes was unopposed for reelection to the five-member board.
