Tainted heritage
The Lane Mercantile buildings new signature sign,
"Eat More Lamb, Its Delicious" was discovered vandalized
yesterday morning with two large black and white paint splotches mottling the signs
center.
A year ago, local residents flocked to the Ketchum City Council to ask
that an earlier denial of the sign be reconsidered. The council agreed and voted in favor
of the sign for its historical significance.
In the early 1900s, Ketchum was the largest sheep-shipping town in the
United States. Some say it was the largest in the world.
Ketchum police had not yet looked into the defaced sign as of yesterday
morning.
