What a party!

New Year’s Eve was an incredible bash all over the Wood River Valley, but the fireworks in Sun Valley were the thing most people who celebrated the new millennium here will remember

The shouts of "Bravo!" and the whoops and hollers are still echoing from the fireworks extravaganza staged on Dollar Mountain. To call it an extravaganza is no exaggeration. Paris, Rome, London, New York—none of the world’s capitals eclipsed Sun Valley in the Y2K fireworks department.

No one we know had ever seen anything like it. Fireworks exploded in the shape of stars. They created hanging curtains of shimmering gold. Pyrotechnic artists used them like tubes of paint to create masterpieces in the winter sky.

The classical musical simulcast on local KECH radio made one of the most incredible displays of fireworks ever seen a multi-layered experience.

Sun Valley Co., the cities of Ketchum and Sun Valley, and the anonymous private donors who paid for the display gave the new century and new millennium a marvelous start. For the thousands of people who viewed the display and for ourselves, we say, "Thank you."

The highest compliment may have come from one visitor who groused on the way to the display, "If you’ve seen one fireworks display, you’ve seen them all." After 25 minutes when the last sparkling remnant had floated to earth and the smoke began to clear, he allowed, "Wow! I guess I hadn’t seen it all."
