Will Storey joins Capitol Commission

Retired business executive from Sun Valley

Retired Sun Valley business executive Will M. Storey is the newest member of the Idaho Capitol Commission.

Storey’s appointment was announced by commission chairman Roy Lewis Eiguren during a Nov. 9 press conference in Boise that also officially welcomed Idahoans and the world to the commission’s new website.

Among the missions of the Idaho Capitol Commission is restoration of the Capitol building in Boise in time for its July 2005 centennial celebration. The website explains how Idahoans can help the effort.

Storey has a historic family connection to the Idaho State Capitol building.

His grandfather, Charles Storey, was superintendent of the Storey and Murphy construction company that built the original structure. The dome and central structure of the Capitol was completed in 1912.

Storey’s grandfather later supervised the construction of the two wing additions (House and Senate chambers), completed in 1920, and also served as an Ada County legislator and former House Speaker.

In announcing Storey’s appointment, Eiguren cited his business background.

Storey held corporate positions with Price Waterhouse, Brooks Scanlon Inc. and Potlatch Forest prior to his tenure with Boise Cascade Corp. as its executive vice president and chief financial officer from 1963 to 1982.

He also held executive positions with Federated Department Stores Inc.; with Manville Inc.; and with American President Companies, Ltd., for which he was executive vice president and chief financial officer up until his retirement in 1995.

Storey is a board member of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and is chairman of the Wood River Valley Community Council for St. Luke’s RMC.

A graduate of Oregon State University. Storey completed graduate studies at the University of Washington and also served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is currently a director on the board of Albertsons’, and with B&B Tile and Masonry.

Storey and his wife Verle have two children, Sharon Miller (Mrs. Seth) and Kip Storey.

On the Capitol Commission Storey replaces Sondra Dahl-Hansen, who resigned effective Nov. 3, 1999.
