Local man killed in accident

A 55-year-old Ketchum man was killed Sunday in a rollover accident just north of Ketchum.

According to Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling, Sam Parker was declared dead at Wood River Medical Center in Sun Valley at 1:25 p.m. Femling said the accident occurred at about 12:34 p.m.

Femling said Parker was driving a 1984 Volkswagon Vanagon headed north on State Highway 75 when he drifted across the road near the Sun Peak picnic site. He said the van vaulted over the Sun Peak entrance road, traveled 30 feet farther and rolled about 30 feet down the bank, ejecting Parker.

Femling said doctors reported that Parker had no pulse upon his arrival at the hospital.

He said family sources had told him that Parker had a history of seizures and rarely drove.

Blaine County Coroner Russ Mikel said it would be impossible to determine if a seizure was responsible for the crash, but that it was most likely the cause.
