Mysterious gunshot heard in Elkhorn

Despite the deployment of officers from three local police departments around a house in Elkhorn, the origin of a gunshot there Sunday remains a mystery.

According to Sun Valley Police Corp. Mike Crawford, his department received calls about 7 p.m. that night from residents in Sunrise subdivision reporting a gunshot that came from a house at 304 Elkhorn Rd. Crawford said officers went to the house and found a door wide open. He said some children playing nearby reported they had seen someone in the house who may have been carrying a gun.

Crawford said officers from the Sun Valley and Ketchum police departments and the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the house and observed it. He said, they neither saw nor heard anything and when they searched the house, they found nothing.

"There was time in there when someone could have gotten out," Crawford said.

Crawford said the home’s owners live out of the area and police have not been able to contact them.
