After a great winter and an extended ski season the Sun Valley resort will shut down the lifts on Bald Mountain for the 1998-99 season this weekend.

According to Sun Valley Company, owner of the resort, the Warm Springs face of the ski mountain will remain open through Sunday. River Run is also scheduled to stay open until Sunday, unless conditions change significantly.

Late season lift ticket rates are now in effect with a day pass on Baldy reduced to $35 and a half day to $26. The discount rate is $25 for a full day and $20 for a half.

Sun Valley currently reports a snow depth of 72 inches remaining at the top of Baldy, with 38 at mid-mountain and 18 inches at the base.

Seattle Ridge and the Bowls, as well as Lower Olympic and Frenchman’s are closed for the season.

The only lifts still in operation are River Run Express, Lookout Express and Christmas on the River Run side of the mountain, and Challenger on the Warm Springs side.

The streets at the base of Warm Springs were blocked off Saturday and filled with revelers celebrating the final week of spectacular skiing.

Favorite local musicians, the Bobo’s, entertained the crowds Saturday afternoon and into the evening.
