Another coffee shop in Ketchum?

Starbucks Coffee Company submits application

Starbucks Coffee Company is testing the waters for a new store on the first floor of the Lane Mercantile building on the corner of Main Street and Sun Valley Road in Ketchum, according to the city building department.

Although Starbucks’ officials refused to confirm the company’s interest, Starbucks did submit an application for a building permit to the Ketchum Planning and Zoning department toward the end of March.

According to Ketchum planner Stacey Matz, who reviewed Starbucks’ application plans, there were several problems including proposed signs, external lighting and existing versus proposed windows. Starbucks was notified of the problems, Matz said, but the city had not heard back from the coffee chain as of yesterday.

Starbucks spokesman Chris Gimbl said a lease for the Lane Mercantile Building has not been signed.

"I have no timeline as to when or if a Starbucks location would open in Ketchum," he said.

He indicated, however, that a public announcement might be made in about two weeks.

Construction of a new addition on the Mercantile commenced two weeks ago. The 3,444-square-foot area will provide retail space on the first floor and office space on the second.
