Brilliant pet tricks at the Paw & Pole

Costumes, skiing and lots of funds

Tennis balls and dog biscuits were the props used by the resourceful top-two winners of the 14th annual Paw & Pole brilliant pet tricks contest Saturday in Sun Valley.

An estimated $14,500 was raised during an event dedicated to tireless Animal Shelter volunteer Lyn Stallard.

And the drum roll: Joanne Stark’s dog "Hoss" crammed four tennis balls in its mouth for the top prize, while Randy Acker’s dog "Tate" balanced four dog biscuits on its nose.

Right behind for third place were Starr, Liza and Parker Weekes with "Lokey," and fourth-place Jima Rice with singing "Bucko." Among winners in the Doggie Cakewalk were Larry Flynn’s dog from the Shelter "Stanley" along with John Hayes and "Maggie."

Maureen Hopper and "Codi" won the Calamity Jane award. There were costume awards in three categories, including the kids’ division which went to Tracy and Wiley Chubb.
