Sen. Crapo opens Academy application process

Nominations for military academies

Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo is now accepting applications for military academy nominations.

Students wishing to attend one of the nation’s four military academies in the year 2000 should submit an application and references and meet certain scholastic requirements by the deadline of Oct. 31, 1999.

Early application is encouraged.

The institutions are:

The U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Co.; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.

Sen. Crapo said, "It is a tremendous honor to nominate some of Idaho’s finest students to our country’s military academies, and I look forward to reviewing this year’s applicants.

"I am pleased that so many students desire to continue their education in a manner that will serve our nation’s best interest. They have already shown a strong commitment to high academic standards and ideals, and I encourage them to continue to do so in pursuing further education goals."

Students may apply to both U.S. senators and the U.S. representative from their congressional district.

The students who will be nominated by Crapo will be forwarded to each military academy, where final appointments will be made by the individual institution.

Those wishing to apply for a nomination to the next class, entering in 2000, should contact Crapo’s military representative Linda Norris at 208-734-2515 for more details.
