Two days only

Sun Valley Company is again offering its Double Discount Days on Baldy today and tomorrow.

Season Discount and Weekend Discount card holders can ski for half the regular discounted rate.

According to Sun Valley Company general manager Wally Huffman, the Double Discount Days on Dec. 14 and 16 were a "great success."

He said that because the ski area is not too busy right now, it is the perfect opportunity to prompt people to get out skiing.

The resort will probably do about the same amount of revenue, Huffman said, but get more skiers on the mountain.

"When I have the opportunity, I’m glad to do it," he said.

Also, added Sun Valley spokesman Jack Sibbach, the locals provide great advertising for the ski area.

For discount card holders, a full day will cost $18 and a half day will be $12.

Sibbach said the advertising campaign launched by Sun Valley Company over the New Year’s holiday in other Rocky Mountain resort town newspapers was successful.

"The ad campaign had a great response," he said. "Reservation calls jumped 30 to 40 percent in the following three days."

Sibbach said the ad was designed to spread awareness of the good skiing conditions in Sun Valley when conditions elsewhere were marginal.

The ad, which pictured a skier skiing through powder and getting a chest shot, read, "Attention skiers: La Niña the snow goddess has blessed Sun Valley."

Yesterday’s Sun Valley ski report gave a 48-inch top depth on Baldy, a drop from earlier measurements, which capped off at 54 inches, and 28 inches at the base. The mountain is currently 100 percent open.

All Dollar Mountain and Bald Mountain lifts are currently operational.
