Brush Up With January Ski Programs

For Blaine Students, Local Adults

Sun Valley Company is offering special ski and snowboard instruction clinics for Blaine County students during January and February. The clinics are popular and space is usually limited. Be sure to register in advance.

The three-weekend, six-session Sun Valley Ski and Snowboard School kids' program, limited to students in kindergarten through the sixth grade (no exceptions are made to this rule), is scheduled to begin its 22nd season on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Ski instruction is limited to 150 skiers per session. Snowboard instruction is limited to a morning session of 100 snowboarders. Keep in mind that beginner snowboard instruction is available for children seven years and older, only.

All instruction is provided by regular Sun Valley Ski School instructors at substantial savings compared to the cost of regular children's clinic rates and lift passes. You pay $16 per day for teaching and lift passes.

Tickets for six days of instruction and skiing are available through Thursday, Jan. 14 at River Run Day Lodge (622-6147). No late registrations will be accepted.

A child must take part in the first day of lessons Jan. 16 to be eligible for the remaining weekend sessions Jan. 17, Jan. 23-24, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. The cost of $98 per person includes lessons and lift tickets for all six days.

Regardless of skiing ability, all participants must meet from 8:30-9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at Dollar Cabin. There, children are assigned to classes according to ability. More advanced skiers move to Baldy Sunday.

The morning classes start at 9 a.m. and conclude by 11:30 a.m. Parents are responsible for their children once the classes end. If supervised or allowed, children may continue skiing on their full-day lift passes. The afternoon classes go from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Sun Valley is also offering an ongoing childrens' weekend ski school at prices well below the regular rates.

LOCAL ADULT CLINICS

The Sun Valley Ski School for the 18th consecutive year is offering local adult ski and snowboard clinics for people ages 16 and older. Once again, regular ski school instructors provide the instruction at bargain rates.

Clinics for competent Baldy skiers/snowboarders and beginning Dollar Mountain skiers are held for three consecutive Saturdays. They are Jan. 23, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. The cost of $61 per person does not include the price of lift tickets.

The Baldy skiers/snowboarders have their initial meeting Saturday, Jan. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Lookout Restaurant atop Baldy. Instruction occurs from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on each of the three days. Dollar Mountain beginning skiers join regular ski classes from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on the three Saturdays.

Absolute beginners in the Dollar Mountain program won't be required to buy a lift ticket on the first morning, only.

Participants must register in person at River Run Day Lodge through Saturday, Jan. 23. Remember, participants must attend the first Saturday. No tickets will be sold on a single-day basis. Call River Run Ski School at 622-6147 for more information.
