Sun Valley Company is extending its Double Discount Days on Baldy deal through today.

The resort owner also has announced the Friday opening of Dollar Mountain.

Season discount and weekend discount cardholders can ski for half of the usual discounted rate today.

The double discounted $12 full day and $10 half day tickets were available to discount card holders on Monday and Tuesday in addition to today.

The resort tallied 14,051 skier days on Monday, according to Sun Valley Company public relations representative Jack Sibbach, and 39 percent of them were people taking advantage of the deal. Usually only about 20 percent of a day’s skiers are discount cardholders, he said.

"One of the reasons we’ve done this is to help jump-start the skiing and to get the locals up there," Sibbach said.

Locals will get the word out that Baldy’s snow is great.

In fact, conditions are so good, Sun Valley Company general manager Wally Huffman announced Dollar Mountain is opening Friday.

Quarter Dollar lift will open Friday, Half Dollar lift will open on Saturday and Full Dollar Lift will open Wednesday, Dec. 23, Sibbach said.

The opening of the new Dollar Mountain half pipe will be delayed pending arrival of new grooming equipment, Sibbach added. "We hope to open this new addition to Dollar before Christmas."
