‘Blithe Spirit’ at Warm Springs Lodge

Two of the most attractive ghosts ever to materialize in the Wood River Valley will be putting in an appearance this Halloween weekend at the Warm Springs Lodge in Ketchum. Noel Coward’s smash comedy hit, "Blithe Spirit" will be staged in the lodge dining room on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. by the Wood River High School Players.

The ingenious plot tell show novelist Charles Condomine (played by Andrew Schiters) invites into his country home an eccentric lady medium (Sarah Lowe) in order to learn the language of the occult. Little does Charles, a recent widower, or his lovely second wife (Rhea Henning) dream that the seance staged by the medium will summon back Charles’ first wife (Kristy Kuntz).

In Coward’s ghoulish tale of an imaginative young author out to gather some "tricks of the trade" before writing a ghost story, and the hilarious antics that occur as a result of his adventures into the unknown are the bulk of the play’s plot.

"Hilariously funny, brilliant, clever and about as cockeyed as a play can be," said critics of the original performances staged in London and on Broadway. Margaret Rutherford, originally starred as the medium and stole the show from Fay Compton and Cecil Parker who portrayed Mr. And Mrs. Condomine.

Other members in the Wood River Valley cast include Brie Wetmore, Kellen Williams and Mandie O’Connell. In addition, some 50 first-year drama students have designed costumes, lights and special effects.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children. They will be available at the door the nights of the show.
