Quiet weekend reported in valleyBy ANDREW
M. SCUTRO With the exception of a reported incidence of domestic violence, police describe a relatively calm, if soggy, holiday weekend in the Wood River Valley. Wet weather, wind and cold temperatures dampened any hope for a hopping Memorial Day. Sunday and Monday rainfall added 0.13 inches to the Ketchum Ranger District offices measurements for the month. The months total is now 4.97 inches, making it the wettest May since recording began in 1909. The weather seemed to keep a lot of people indoors. "The traffic probably wasnt nearly as heavy as it has been in the past," reported Blaine County Sheriffs chief deputy Gene Ramsey. Other police and fire departments in the valley also reported a non-eventful weekend. Three arrests, one DUI, an arrest for failure to appear and one arrest for an alleged domestic incident were reported. Ryan Mackay Nielson, 44, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was arrested Friday night by the Twin Falls Police Department for an alleged domestic incident that began in the Wood River Valley. Ramsey said Nielson was in custody in the Blaine County Jail on domestic battery and second degree kidnapping charges. Nielson was being held on $50,000 bond prior to arraignment on Tuesday. Twin Falls police officers responded to a restaurant in that city after being contacted by Nielsons wife. The incident reportedly began at a cafe in Ketchum. The case is still under investigation by the Blaine County Sheriffs Office. Under investigation by the Sun Valley Police Department is the theft in mid-May of an estimated $45,225 worth of jewelry and an unknown number of blank checks from a home on Morning Star Road. Police Chief Cam Daggett said officers are following a number of leads.
