Speech honors go to Wood River students

At state tournament in Twin Falls


The State High School Speech Tournament showcased the abilities of Wood River High School speech arts students April 17-18 in Twin Falls.

Sponsoring the two-day tournament was the Idaho High School Activities Association.

Wood River was one of the top five rated schools at state, advisor Tim Neville said. "I was pleased with the performances of the students and their hard work," he said.

In retold story, Whitney Chandler was a second-place silver-medal state winner, with a superior rating.

Finalists, earning superiors, were Katie O’Farrell (radio speaking); and Caleb Wright (extemporaneous speaking).

Semi-finalists, all with superiors, were these students: Adam Neville and Louise Nagashima (extemporaneous speaking); Jackie Baxter (impromptu speaking); and the team of Adam Brod and Kelly Moxley (duo interpretation).

Those with superior ratings were: Holly Nelson and Jimmy McCollum (impromptu); Fallon Flade (panel discussion); J.T. Phillips (expository speaking); and Paul Neville (retold story).
